Survival stories for kids

For our grade 4 and 5’s: don’t forget to check out books from our “Survival Stories for Kids” display.  The Scholastic series (http://www.scholastic.ca/) “I Survived” has been very popular, and … if you like those, there are many other survival and adventure stories to choose from!

Mystery Series CartOctober is also a great month to check out a mystery book!  What are mystery books?  “The mystery genre is a type of fiction in which a detective, or other professional, solves a crime or series of crimes. It can take the form of a novel or short story. This genre may also be called detective or crime novels.”

Some popular mystery series are:

  • Encyclopedia Brown
  • The Hardy Boys
  • Nancy Drew
  • Mandie
  • Elizabeth Gail

Scholastic Book Fair 2014!

Scholastic Book Fair 2014

The school fair is coming up.

It can be a great source for Christmas and birthday presents.

– Giving the gift of reading!

As a school MEI receives credit from the sales from the book fair

A portion we choose to donate to H2H to help them instill the joy of reading through their library.

Another portion we use to buy directly from Scholastic at a discounted price and the rest we receive as cash to purchase from other sources.

We are proud to have a large collection of books from classics to current and strive to provide one of the best school library collections to meet the demands of our voracious readers.

Our library budget has significantly decreased from $5500 in 2009 to $3000 this year.

A large portion of this budget goes to our technological subscriptions, magazine subscriptions, supplies and public performance rights.

For this reason, we appreciate dividends to keep up with replacements and new materials.

This year the Library would like to use some of the dividends to replace a portion of our VHS with DVDs and have some which are no longer available for purchase (and where copyright allows) be transferred to the newer format.

Thank you for all your support!  Enjoy the fair!

We look forward to seeing you there

November is Picture Book Month

PBMLOGO-COLOR_WEBRESCelebrate this month by sharing a picture book with a friend!

We have 3,681 picture books to choose from in our Library… even more if you include all our fairy tales and poetry books!

The Christian Book Fair was a GREAT success!

Our final dividend count came to: $253.90!!! With it, we were able to select the books in the photo! This is awesome!  Many of the books we were able to select are Biographies! which are becoming more popular in our collection. The ‘young readers’ biographies were selected to replace our aging earlier edition of that series and will save room on our shelves (the other ones are short, thick and awkward- love the new edition).  The cool thing about putting books into our library is that they are enjoyed for years and years by many, many students. Thank you so much to the parents who hosted, Lighthouse Books, and all the shoppers who came out to support the fair!
