Congratulations to our Reading Record Prize Winners!

WOW!

This year we had 150 submissions of reading records handed in to the Library.  In this reading record program, students filled out lists of books that they had read in different themes. Each submission qualified them to enter the draw for prizes at the end of the school year.

Today we held a draw for 2 grand prizes of $10.00 gift cards for the House of James and a whopping 20 free gelato coupons!

Congratulations to all the students who participated in our reading record program!  We are so proud of each one of you.

Many thanks go to the House of James for their generous support of the program.

GREAT READING!

Leaf through a good book!

Leaf through a good book bulletin board

Did you know that many of our Library books once had a home with a student?

Some books are read and enjoyed at home and then get donated to our Library!

Do you have any books you are finished reading that are wholesome, in good or excellent condition and might be enjoyed by others?

You can DONATE them to the Library!

When donated items arrive, our Library staff assesses the donated books for use.  According to our assessments, many become part of our collection, some go on to other countries (often in the spring on MEI missions trips), some are sold at our used book sale and some go to MCC.

The Library also accepts DVDs for the collection and stickers for bookmarks and prizes.

Thank you to the many, many families that have donated books to the Library over the years.

Books really are a gift that keeps on giving.  They are loved, appreciated and enjoyed by our students.

National Flag of Canada Day

Canada Flags on Parliament Hill

“The flag is the symbol of the nation’s unity, for it, beyond any doubt, represents all the citizens of Canada without distinction of race, language, belief or opinion,” declared the Speaker of the Senate at the Inauguration of the new flag in 1965.

On February 15, 1965, our national flag was raised for the first time on Parliament Hill. Canada was just two years away from centennial celebrations when the maple leaf flag was made official by Royal Proclamation. In 1996, February 15 was declared National Flag of Canada Day and has been observed every year since.

February 15, 2015, will mark the 50th anniversary of the National Flag of Canada. This special Flag Day is the perfect opportunity to learn more about how our flag was created and what it means to us.

Canadians are invited to join together and celebrate our flag by organizing their own public events or by showing their pride on social media.
